Do You Have Questions?

FAQ

When should I schedule my first appointment?
We like you to have a “Meet the Midwife” visit, so that you can make sure that a birth center birth is right for you. Once that has happened we can schedule your first appointment. We like to have a first appointment in the first trimester (before 12 weeks). But call us at any point you decide you might be interested in a birth center setting.
A Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), is a registered nurse that has received additional training to become a midwife. CNM’s can take care of girls when they start having periods and continuing caring for them all the way through menopause. We basically can care for you for your lifetime! CNM’s are considered primary care providers in the State of Texas, and have prescriptive authority (meaning we can write you a prescription if necessary). We collaborate with physicians and most CNM’s, work in hospitals.

Certified Nurse Midwives are considered primary care providers in the State of Texas. If you feel more comfortable in seeing a physician then we would encourage you to do so, but it is not necessary to see a doctor to start prenatal care with us. We evaluate your risk factors when you first become a patient, and at several different times throughout your pregnancy. If your risk factors indicate that you need to see a physician, we will absolutely refer you.

Although this is your party, let’s think this thing through. Generally speaking, the more people you have in the room with you, the longer your labor will take. So before you start promising everyone they can come in, you need to think about how that might impact your birth environment. BirthPointe does not have a policy on the number of people you can have in the birth space, but it is best to choose people that will honor your birth decisions and not use that time to question you or criticize your birthing plans. People who give you anxiety, or who you think might be loud or confrontational should probably be left off the list.
Natural birth is something that you prepare for, and we discuss comfort measures to help you, as well as offer suggestions while you are in labor. We have classes to help educate you on comfort measures, labor positions and how to get your partner involved. There are also different laboring techniques that can help you achieve your natural birth. It is very rare for a woman to have prepared for natural birth with BirthPointe and need to go to the hospital for pain management. Another fantastic thing to have is a doula. These trained professionals work with you to manage the discomfort of labor. And we have a lot of great doulas that we would be more than happy to tell you about.
40 weeks is an estimation, it is not an appointment. But we also can’t let you stay pregnant forever! At 41 weeks, the Certified Nurse Midwife will check your cervix and determine if you need to be induced. We have a variety of ways to do that, without using Pitocin. If you are still pregnant at 42 weeks, we will transfer your care to a hospital setting so they can use Pitocin or other measures to stimulate your labor.
BirthPointe is considered out of network with all commercial insurance. Unfortunately, insurance companies do not value the type of care that we give. They don’t appreciate extra time spent with their members, or personal phone calls to you to discuss lab results, or even that we spend a good portion of your labor with you. Insurance companies have long dictated how physicians can care for you, and you can see where that has landed women during this season of their life. As a courtesy to you, we will file your insurance for you and any reimbursements that we receive, will be given back to you according to your contractual arrangements you have with your insurance.

Yes, of course you can! BirthPointe is completely family friendly. Your children will find plenty of toys for all ages, a train table and yes, a permanent kid’s potty in our lobby bathroom.

The care offered at BirthPointe is beyond incredible! The midwives really, really care about every mom and baby and family - every patient is a person, not a number. The front desk staff is super friendly and helpful and happy to see you. The facility and birth rooms are so comfortable and beautiful, but also so clean and professional. Every stage of the prenatal, labor, and postnatal care was exceptional... I could never do a hospital pregnancy journey after the level of love and care we experienced here. All the staff knew me and my husband by name by our second visit! I can't express how amazing BirthPointe is and how grateful I am to Traci and Theresa!

The Birthpointe team is professional, transparent and caring in their care. My wife and I’s experience was second to none. They constantly reassured us through the process and answered our questions thoroughly. The family atmosphere of the birth center makes for a cozy place for visits. Traci was meticulously checking fetal heart rate and monitoring my wife’s health throughout labor. Highly recommend!

I have had several births with the wonderful nurse midwives at BirthPointe. They are diligent, compassionate, and go above and beyond to make your experience empowered and wonderful. I experienced an early miscarriage during my time interviewing local providers as I was new to the area. I had only talked to Traci one time, had not hired her, and yet she was the one who bothered to call me back and help me through a terrible process. I knew I would come back to her for future pregnancies. The office staff is kind and organized. My appointments run on time. My questions between appointments are answered promptly. The actual birth and postpartum care is amazing! My births have been so joy-filled and low stress, yet the midwives have eagle eyes for any potential issues. I never once felt nervous because I knew I was in experienced hands and they respected my wishes. I cannot recommend BirthPointe enough!

I cannot even BEGIN to describe just how much I fell in love with BirthPointe and the absolute amazing ladies that make it what it is. After a traumatic hospital birth with my first, my husband and I knew the second time around we wanted to try for a birth center and I am so grateful we found Traci, Theresa and their team. From the very first appointment, I felt so welcomed and heard and that I was viewed as a person and not just another number in the system. Traci, Theresa, Amirah and Peri listened to every hope, fear and want that I had and went above and beyond to try and meet every expectation. They made me feel so reassured multiple times and even walked with me through the postpartum depression I had developed after my first delivery (and ultimately got me the right treatment that I needed to squash its ugly head). They are a wealth of knowledge. I had a scare one night of not feeling baby move and when I called the labor line, fully expected to be instructed to go to the hospital for monitoring, Theresa calmly said she'd be right over with the ultrasound pad to check on baby. Everything turned out to be okay, but I will never forget how much I appreciated Theresa (now dubbed St. Theresa) for the quick care and compassion she showed me. And then there's Janessa and June! I concur with another reviewer that they deserve there own standing ovation. It was such a delight to get to know them and I don't think I've ever met sweeter front office staff. Ultimately, I did have to end up being induced at Baylor Dallas due to a couple of complications that came up (rising blood pressure and a dip in baby's heart rate), but if it weren't for my midwives recommending I go there, I wouldn't have had the amazing birth experience that I did. I am so grateful to Traci, Theresa and the whole team for everything. I truly looked forward to every appointment and I will miss the lively conversations and laughter. God-willing, until the next one!;)

The team at BirthPointe was fantastic. Throughout our time working with them, they were communicative, knowledgeable, and supportive. Traci, Theresa, and Peri brought such a wealth of knowledge to the table, and they were such a well-rounded and cohesive team. All three midwives listened attentively, were affirming, and offered helpful advice during the whole pregnancy. We felt we were in good hands and were confident entrusting my wife's pregnancy to their expertise. We got to work with each of them, and Peri and Traci did an amazing job in my wife's delivery, and Theresa was so compassionate and encouraging during the two day postpartum visit (and afterwards). The classes were very informative, especially as first time parents. The rooms are well furnished and very comfortable. Our experience in my wife giving birth in the Anthropologie room was what we hoped for. Janessa and the back office team are very organized and responsive. We expect to be reaching back out to BirthPointe when we are expecting our second.

Just had my first baby with the help of these lovely people! Extremely caring team, everyone is so friendly. My husband and I wanted a very natural experience and these midwives accommodated almost every request! They offer complimentary classes on childbirth, nursing, and several other topics to ensure you feel prepared to welcome your little one. They’re also very responsive to messages on their patient portal. I was most concerned about being sent to the hospital at the time of birth, but even when things got a little risky with baby’s heart rate dropping, Traci made sure things were safe and, with her and Peri’s guidance, we were able to deliver baby super healthy without a transfer. I was also impressed with how kid friendly they are for moms who already have kids; they have a train table in the clinic room and so many toys! Hoping to go back if we’re blessed with another baby!

I would give Traci and Theresa 10 stars if I could. As a father of three, with three very different births, I truly can’t thank the team enough. Our experience at BP was nothing short of incredible. My wife had complications during the end of pregnancy that made the last month or so difficult to navigate and I believe we wouldn’t have come away with such a positive birth experience if it weren’t for the midwives who cared for her. Traci and Theresa were so devoted and supportive through and through. Needless to say, we will always be grateful for their care and would choose them again if given the opportunity.
